=== The city has a good tourist signage. The Town Hall was built in the 14th century,and can be climbed to the top of the 40m tower.. There is a statue of Nicholas Copernicus the famous astronomer., he proved that the sun is the centre of the Universe.---------I arrived at one of the two rail stations, Torun Glowny, and took a bus to city centre over the river bridge. I stayed at the Merecure hotel which is at end of Jana Pawla Str.---I enjoyed Polish beer , which is tasty and cheap.=========THE CITY WAS FOUNDED BY THE TEUTONIC KNIGHTS IN 1233AD. THE STREET PLAN RETAINS ITS MEDIEVAL SHAPE. THE MAIN STREETS ARE CLOSED TO TRAFFIC. THE CITY WALL IS WELL PRESERVED,WITH GATEWAYS OF DIFFERENT DESIGNS. THE CROOKED TOWER IS PART OF THE WALL FORTIFICATIONS. THE LARGE IRON BRIDGE CROSSES THE RIVER WISTLA.[VISTULA] WHICH EMPTIES INTO THE BALTIC SEA.
